About Saskatoon

Perhaps you’ve never heard of Saskatoon. That’s no surprise – Saskatoon is Canada’s best kept secret. Saskatoon offers top-notch opportunities: the millennium edition of Places Rated Almanac, Saskatoon was ranked as the best place to live in all of Canada. In terms of education, Saskatoon was awarded tenth place out of 354 North American Cities. The Gourman Report ranks our Electrical Engineering program in the top 20 in North America. Saskatoon is also home to the largest Synchrotron in Canada, and the second largest in North America. This Canadian Light Source (CLS) is also listed among the 10 most advanced research facilities of its kind in the world. And that is barely scratching the surface.

Given all this, Saskatoon is the ideal place to hold the IEEE Illumination Conference. In addition to an eager and well educated student body, there are plentiful community resources from which to draw, including the very successful Innovation Place Research Park neighboring the University of Saskatchewan. Additionally, we hope to draw on our geographically centralized location by encouraging neighboring universities to attend. Then perhaps you and all of our visitors will see firsthand why Saskatoon is Canada’s best kept secret.
