Speaker: Matthew Dalzell

Illumination 2018 is pleased to announce that Matthew Dalzell will be speaking at this year’s conference!

Matthew has been a science communicator and educator for over 15 years. This includes being
the communications coordinator with the Canadian Light Source from 2004 to 2012, and the
communications officer and partnerships manager with the Sylvia Fedoruk Canadian Centre for Nuclear
Innovation from 2012 to 2017. In 2013 he became a charter member of the Western Branch of the
Canadian Nuclear Society, currently serving as co-chair. Matthew also serves as co-chair of the Canadian
Nuclear Society’s Generation IV and Small Reactor Division and is a member of the society’s Education
and Communications Committee.

Matthew holds a Master’s of Geological Sciences and bachelor degrees in education and science from
the University of Saskatchewan. He has served for 25 years in the Royal Canadian Naval Reserve and is
currently commanding officer of Saskatoon’s naval reserve division, HMCS Unicorn. Matthew is a
recipient of the Province of Saskatchewan Centennial Medal and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
